Friday book # 34: Constitution of the BSSR

This Friday’s book (or more precisely, booklet) is yet another souvenir from my student days in Minsk: the Constitution of the Belyorussian Soviet Socialist Republic.

  1. Seems to have worked, Belarus has experienced less population decline than ukraine or the baltics. Latvia for instance, practically drives young families away, with flat 35% tax on wage income and a 21% VAT. On the other hand, the corporate and capital gains tax rate in 15%, and other investment income faces a rate of only 10%.

What’s really funny is how the government of this cozy little Galts-Gulch-on-the-Baltic can’t figure out why young adults who want to start families are fleeing, because after all their policy is so ‘business-friendly’ and ‘investor-friendly’
